England: It’s a Princess!

by on May.02, 2015, under Favorites

I don’t care what anyone else thinks about England’s royal family, but I am sure up for some good news and this morning there (finally) was some…William and Catherine now have a daughter. And mother and baby are apparently well.

At the same time it is sad to think that Diana didn’t live long enough to see her son William married to a person who obviously makes him happy and who has now given him two healthy children.

Yes, they live a sort of fairy tale, unreal existence and yes, some in England think the monarchy doesn’t actually do enough to warrant their position and entitlements. But at the same time, there is a consistency provided to England by the knowledge that their queen has now “been there” for them – for over 60 years. It will probably be that many did not truly appreciate how rare this was – until she is gone.

We don’t have royalty in the US – although some misguided people seem to THINK they are royalty. While I don’t want that for the US, I can see the importance to the people of the United Kingdom and be thrilled along with them that the person who will probably be their future king is in a happy marriage and is building a great little family of his own.

As a side note – for those who are inclined, the Kentucky Derby is being run later today. I’ve made MY pick – even with his rather long odds – of “Far Right.” Even if he doesn’t win, that’s a name I can get behind!!!

Happy Saturday!!

Bruce Jenner: I’m a Woman, and a Republican

by on Apr.26, 2015, under Favorites, US Politics

Okay, in a world of bad news such as:

++ Bakers being “fined” $135,000 for not wanting to make a gay couple’s wedding cake (the left’s latest money-making opportunity!)

++ Hillary, Bill and Chelsea Clinton’s little family nest egg project – funded by ill-gotten gold

++ Over 2,000 people killed in Nepal after the earthquake and aftershocks

++ Loretta Lynch being confirmed as our latest excuse for a US Attorney General

++ The City of Baltimore turning into yet another “Ferguson” before the investigation is completed (yawn)

I then hear, but not see, that Bruce Jenner – a 1970’s Olympic Gold Medal American icon, says he has “always” been a woman.

Really?

I have no stance on this subject except to say there seem to be a lot of confused people in this world. As long as his “transformation” isn’t using my tax dollars, I could care less. And I won’t be spending too much time thinking about his decisions.

But here’s the humor that IS coming out of his “coming out” party.

Jenner admitted – stand by now – that he’s also a – REPUBLICAN!

OMG! How can this be? The left is going stark-raving bonkers over this admission. As if it were not enough “news” to say a man is now becoming a woman, he’s a REPUBLICAN. And I’ve seen more coverage over his politics than over his evolving physical transformation.

You have to laugh or you’ll go mad. How dare a now-admitted transgender, whatever, be a REPUBLICAN? Certainly there must be some shock therapy to resolve this “disease?”

So much for “tolerance.” The left, who are always shouting about their right to be 180-degrees different than the majority, can’t handle it when one of their adopted social icons chooses to also have a political mind of his/her own.

For that alone, he/she has my support.

Airline Tragedy: Maintaining Perspective

by on Mar.29, 2015, under Favorites

A terrible thing happened this past week. In one specific airline incident, 150 people died.

Per usual, the media has gone berserk. Of course we’d like to know what happened. The families of those killed deserve the truth. If the pilot, as it appears, was either deranged, or purposeful, or just incompetent, we’d like to know that too. But hopefully this knowledge is to avoid any future disasters.

Unfortunately, the “investigations” seem to take a life of their own. I’ve read the pilot was (here’s the list so far:)

++ Depressed
++ Fatalistic
++ Had vision problems
++ Broke up with his girlfriend
++ Was having nightmares
++ Had specific dreams of plane crashes
++ Had sick leave from work, but flew anyway

That’s a pretty long list and I may have missed one or two. By the end of this week, I’m sure the “supposers” will come up with a few more “maybes.”

This incoming “info” is now turning focus on airline pilots – as a group. So once again, the actions of ONE PILOT are being used to address “problems” with pilots en masse. This is unfair and it’s just wrong.

During the year 2014, some 662 MILLION people traveled by plane. And 990 fatalities.

Full safety report

There are enough really frightening things going on in the world. It annoys me that the actions of this one pilot are being used to scare people and to cast aspersions on the thousands of pilots who take their job, THEIR life, and the lives of their passengers as top priorities.

Any time you have more than one moving part, and any time a human is involved, there’s a chance something may go wrong. We are not so ignorant that we don’t realize what’s involved to get an airplane safely from one destination to the next. But don’t try to corral us into thinking this pilot was the “norm” and that all pilots now deserve censure. I think their overall record proves otherwise.

Sometimes bad things happen – which is why they are called tragedies. Learn what you can from it, make improvements if applicable, and move on.

Spring: Let the Sinus Pain Begin!

by on Mar.24, 2015, under Favorites

Always something to whine about!!

I, like many others, have a few issues with sinuses – that aren’t getting any better as I get older. It started Sunday with sort of a headachy, chills, not-quite-right feeling and here we go Spring 2015!!

I do have a recommendation for anyone else who has the same problems this time of year. Mucinex LIQUID “Cold/Sinus.” I swear by it. I don’t have a sinus infection – yet, but the last time I did, this stuff was the ONLY thing that started me down the healing path. Not the capsules, but the liquid version of this product.

On a more positive note, I did notice the amazing Bradford Pear and Forsythia trees blooming along the roadside as I was out yesterday. And other trees and some bulbs are beginning to put on their Spring show – at least here in my Central North Carolina location.

So while we get through the itchy eyes, sneezing, respiratory yuckiness of the Spring season, don’t forget to appreciate and enjoy the spots of color after what has often been a tough and dreary winter. I’m also glad to see kids outside playing ball and running around – burning off all their stored energy. If I had some, and could stop sneezing long enough, I’d be out there with them!
