Another great use for your wood stove
by admin on Nov.04, 2011, under Favorites
As if staying warm for less, cooking when the electricity is out, and using up excess and dead limbs and branches weren’t enough, I’ve found another great use for my wood stove…
It’s a great document burner!
Forget buying a shredder – although I am completely finicky about securing my data and documents. I do a once-a-year clean-out of paperwork, put it all in a bag, and it eventually provides a nice little addition to the stove’s kindling supply.

September 23rd it is this year for the first day of Fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Labor Day weekend is sort of my official start to the fall season – time to start thinking about raking leaves and gathering dead branches and limbs for wood stove kindling. The 2011 preparation for the log-size wood pile will wait a bit – while the end-of-summer snakes find somewhere else to be.

Cold lake – Warm cottage
by admin on Dec.16, 2010, under Favorites, Images
Really a cold week for December this year. 16 degrees yesterday morning (snowing this morning so a little warmer,) gave the lake a very cold perspective:

Brrr…16 degrees at 0600.
Fortunately, inside the cottage looked and felt quite a bit warmer thanks to my Century Hearth wood stove:

Century Hearth FW240007 wood stove
Dragon not included, but I got mine via Plow & Hearth.
It takes a very hot fire for the dragon to steam so this is a great shot on a really cold day. Humidity yesterday morning was 22% – very low and very dry for North Carolina – adding a little moisture to the air is a good thing.
Winter is nearly enjoyable with a wood stove! Read more about it on the Rose Cottage Ltd web site…
