Fort Hood: Too Little, Too Late

My new favorite word for most of what I hear going on with the US Government is, “appalling.”
Yesterday’s ceremony giving Purple Hearts to victims of the Fort Hood massacre certainly fit the bill. Although this TERRORIST attack happened in 2009, here’s one of the reasons why it’s taken so long to recognize victims and survivors:
A Pentagon position paper obtained by ABC News in April 2013 said that giving the victims the Purple Heart could “irrevocably alter the fundamental character of this time-honored decoration” and “undermine the prosecution of Major Nidal Hasan by materially and directly compromising Major Hasan’s ability to receive a fair trial.”
Well we couldn’t have a murderer’s trial compromised now could we?
In case you forgot who “Hasan” is – Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, was convicted in 2013 of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder. He was sentenced to death. But of course, HE’S STILL ALIVE!
Okay, so that somewhat explains the first 4+ years of delay in awarding these medals, but this makes it even worse:

WHAT?
Army spokeswoman Cynthia O. Smith told Fox News in a statement, “All recipients of the Purple Heart Medal under section 571 of the NDAA 2015 will receive the benefits to which they are legally entitled.In the case at issue, no final decision has been rendered, and the Soldier will have a full opportunity to present evidence at a formal hearing.”
So you are in the US military, work on a military installation in the US, are either killed or shot by some terrorist yelling “Allahu Akbar” and you need to have a HEARING to receive any benefits?
Well let’s take a look at another soldier – good old Bradley Manning aka “Chelsea.”
Convicted in 2013 of violations of the Espionage Act, ultimately charged with 22 offenses, and sentenced to 35 years in prison:
CONGRATULATIONS, TAXPAYERS, YOU GET TO PAY FOR BRADLEY MANNING’S HORMONE THERAPY
So a soldier, of sorts, convicted and sitting in a jail cell at Ft. Leavenworth is getting taxpayer-funded sex-change treatments while those who were SHOT (or killed) by a Army Major Muslim have to attend a hearing to get survival benefits?
Where’s the military’s responsibility for not vetting or REMOVING Major Hasan from service? He was apparently in email contact with terrorists before he opened fire on fellow soldiers ON US SOIL!
TWO of those injured in this attack have committed suicide – after waiting for help from THEIR military and THEIR government – that never came!
Appalling doesn’t cover half the outrage I feel at having our soldiers mistreated and ignored in this manner while they coddle the obviously dangerous and confused Ms/Mr Manning. One of the Fort Hood victims is a Staff Sargeant – also named Manning – who is STILL walking around with a couple of Major Hasan’s bullets in his body. But let’s make sure the convicted traitor and transgender Manning gets his “treatment” first.
