Today is about sun and fun, sleeping in late, store sales (I hear mattresses sell well this particular weekend), and a bit of extra time for families to spend together.

But let’s also remember that Memorial Day is to remember not only the soldiers who have died to protect our freedoms, but for those who fought and survived – sometimes losing limbs, eyes, or their sanity. They deserve our thoughts as well.

I am going to take part in the “GoSilent” campaign today – and am asking my fellow Americans to observe a moment of silence for fallen military servicemembers today at 12:01 p.m. ET.
