US Government – Expensive, Stone-Age Technology

by on Jul.25, 2015, under US Politics

I heard two terms yesterday that I haven’t heard for awhile: DOS, and Windows 97.

If you’re under about 45 or so, you may not know what “DOS” is. Here’s a good description from Wikipedia. Windows 97 is nearly as ancient and has not been supported by Microsoft for about 5 years.

And here’s where I heard these terms used yesterday:

++ 1/2 TRILLION spent on IT upgrades, but IRS, Feds still use DOS, old Windows

“Since President Obama has taken office, the federal government has spent in excess of $525 billion dollars on IT. And it doesn’t work,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

“The IRS still uses the DOS operating system. You have a Patent office that just got Windows 97. They don’t even service Windows 97 anymore. And yet they just got it. So the procurement process is really, really broken in this regard,” he added.

This is a sad follow-up to my post of a day or two ago, and another sign of the complete incompetence of some of the most highly-paid people in US Government positions.

It also helps to explain why some (now quoted number which keeps climbing,) 32 MILLION OPM records have been hacked.

The $525 billion dollars this administration has spent is TAX PAYER MONEY, and what do we get for our “contribution?” HACKED!

It’s too bad Obama is focused on illegal aliens, and on trying to shift where people live, and on taking away guns from law-abiding citizens, and on making “deals” with Iran – all while ignoring ISIS. While he’s also failing at THOSE issues, his inattention to the basic operation of the US Government has once again put US citizens at risk.

Where is the penalty for doing so???
