Kerry and Iran: Such a Deal
by admin on Jul.13, 2015, under US Politics
Wouldn’t this news story ruin any confidence in the US over this “deal” with Iran – which may be announced today?
++ Double dealing: Iran violating nuclear sanctions even as talks drag on
That was published YESTERDAY, but I wake up this morning to read that John Kerry is going to announce his “deal” sometime today? Sorry I keep putting the word “deal” in quotes but I think it’s been proven to me that John Kerry and Barack Obama do not identify the word “deal” the way I do.
Here is a clear indicator that Kerry is giving away more than he is getting – a situation typical of this administration:
Meanwhile, Iranians were preparing to celebrate in the event of an agreement. Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency reported that deputy police chief Brigadier General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi said the authorities are fully prepared for such celebrations.
“Celebrations?” If Iran is already planning to celebrate is that not a bad sign for the US side of the negotiations? Do I want my country’s name on a document that has Iran celebrating? I don’t think so.
Here are two others – with much more knowledge than I have – weighing in on the subject:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a fierce opponent of what he considers a deal that is too lenient on Tehran, said Khamenei’s comments showed that Western powers are “caving” in to Iran even as the Islamic republic keeps railing against them.
A nuclear deal will also face serious scrutiny from members of Congress.
“This is going to be a very hard sell for the administration,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said on “Fox News Sunday” when asked about the likelihood of Congress signing off on a deal. “We already know it’s going to leave Iran as a threshold nuclear state.”
The US has already released billions of sanctioned dollars to Iran and if this deal gets approval, Iran will soon get billions more. Dealing with Iran is not something anyone should take lightly and with billions at stake – saying anything the US negotiators want to hear in order to get the money seems likely.
I wish I had more (or in fact ANY) confidence in John Kerry. Obama has already proven that he will give away the farm and get nothing in return – think Cuba.
If Iran is ready to celebrate this “deal,” I think citizens of the US should be very worried…
