US Government: Costly and Stupid Decisions

by on Jun.22, 2015, under US Politics

And we are paying for ALL of them – one way or another.

Here’s one for both the costly AND stupid categories.

++ The US agency plundered by Chinese hackers made one of the dumbest security moves possible

No time to read the article? Here’s the main takeaway and reason for this blog post:

Contractors in Argentina and China were given “direct access to every row of data in every database” when they were hired by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to manage the personnel records of more than 14 million federal employees, a federal consultant told ArsTechnica.

The OPM IT team frequently outsources its work to foreign contractors working in their home country. Those holding Chinese passports are no exception.

As if this stupidity wasn’t enough; if the Obama Administration first lying about the severity of this breach wasn’t bad enough; as if the fact that much of this data gathering is done without your consent or knowledge by the US Government wasn’t bad enough, how about this…

Thousands of US workers who have years and years of experience working in the Information Technology sector, myself included, CANNOT FIND JOBS!!!

So while the government creates a security risk and then breach of our personal info, we are being hacked by people NOT living in this country and while US workers who could perform exactly the same tasks, can’t find employment!! Wouldn’t you, or anyone else with a brain, rather pay a worker an extra five or even ten dollars an hour to know they were a US citizen working on US soil? Hell, I WOULD!!!

And why is it that these “overseas” contractors can seemingly be granted fast security clearances when I or someone like me, born and raised in the United States, loses job opportunities because getting a security clearance takes too long? How much harder is it to do a background check on someone from Argentina than it is on me? Are they even conducting background checks? Based on the now nearly constant level of hacking and security leaks – apparently, not.

I’ll tell you fellow US citizens and legal immigrants, NO ONE HAS OUR BACKS! Instead of pushing, pushing this trade deal – which from what I’ve read makes us even more exposed than now – how about SOMEONE in the damn US Government start putting US workers, US safety, and US citizens and legal immigrants first!!! NO MORE H-1B visas for foreign workers and you can forget letting THEM bring their entire family to the US. You cannot offer us jobs, you cannot protect our data, and I’m pretty sure this president does not give a crap about our sovereignty or our borders.

Someone needs to make some changes and fast…we’re getting tired of waiting…

UPDATE 6/23: Why does THIS not surprise me??

++ Number affected by hack soars to 18M, agency head says nobody ‘personally responsible’
