Happy Easter from Rose Cottage

“Daisy” has been on her nest nearly 24/7 for the past week. I got a quick glimpse yesterday and there are 3 eggs in her nest. Last year she ended up with 6 goslings so it looks like she’s about half-way through her “processing” for this season.
She seems to have appreciated my “home-building” assistance by my giving her ready access to some straw for her nest. She’s made good use of it!

I’m sorry to see that Nestle’s Coffeemate is going to a new plastic container. I’ve been managing to get some extra milage out of those I already have. This can is actually now filled with cracked corn, for a rather intelligent and particular goose…

Goose with, not in, a band…
by admin on Feb.25, 2010, under Images, Real Estate
I have geese on my lake almost all the time. I like them. They are loyal to their spouse, mate for life, and take extraordinary care of their goslings.
A week or so ago I noticed one goose had a band on his (or her) leg.
I grabbed my camera and took about 10 photos until I could enlarge and see all the numbers on the band. Off to the internet and sure enough, the USGS has a web site for tracking!
In a matter of days I was able to find that this particular goose was born June 8, 2006, London Ontario – no surprise – Canada, and it is a SHE! How cool! The USGS – United States Geological Service, even sent me a Certificate of Appreciation for reporting the band – and the goose.
Always something of interest going on in the country…even on a cold, snowy day…
