Charleston: Everyone Knows, Nothing

by on Jun.19, 2015, under US Politics

Anyone who read yesterday’s post will know that I was going to take 48 hours off and stay away from “news.” I picked a bad day – as if there is ever a good one in this world these days.

What a tragic thing happened in the church in South Carolina. People going about their day in a place where they should feel the most safe, and 9 of them are now dead. To me, this is the major takeaway from Wednesday night’s shooting.

But what does the president, the media, and almost every Tom, Dick and Harry focus on? “It’s a hate crime. It’s a racial crime. It’s terrorism.” There was even one South Carolina politician who seemed to blame this tragedy on his opinion that the shooter watched Fox News!

President Obama, in the way that only HE seems to be able to do, made a somber comment about the tragedy and then IMMEDIATELY started talking about gun control! He also made a comment that was totally out of left field by saying that this kind of tragedy ONLY happens in the United States! Really? I know he has no strategy about ISIS, but has he forgotten they exist? He then boarded Air Force One to head off to California for some more fundraising and golf. Drop a bomb, and then leave – standard procedure.

I think it is abominable that innocent people died. I know little to nothing for SURE about the shooter. How did he get the gun? Was he on drugs – prescription or otherwise? What was his focus? Did he even know where he was or what he was doing? Was this racial or religious motivation? I don’t have the answer to these questions and at least I admit it. The media (and the president) are making comments and assumptions when they have literally NONE of the facts.

As Obama said he is tired of having to make these statements after a tragedy, I too am tired of being grouped with a psychotic because I happen to believe in our Second Amendment rights and because I am a licensed gun owner. What did I do wrong yesterday? Nothing. Who did I shoot? No one. If we are constantly told that we cannot lump all Muslims in with those Muslims who are terrorists and murders, then why are legal and law-abiding gun owners the FIRST to risk censure anytime someone with a gun goes off the rails? It seems hypocritical at best and I am tired of being blamed and restricted based on the actions of the lowest and most warped of our society.

The media and the president did a major disservice to those who lost their lives Wednesday night. Instead of focusing more on their loss and then ensuring there is a thorough investigation, the same people and now the DOJ, started pointing fingers without having all the facts and began acting and commenting on assumptions that may prove to not be true.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those who are suffering this senseless and tragic loss. I hope they are able to isolate themselves from the know-alls who are focusing on nearly everything else but the victims.
