I’m fortunate to live in a rural area on some acreage and have plenty to see and do outdoors this summer. Others will have a work a bit harder to take advantage of the beauty the US has to offer. Fortunately, National Geographic makes it much easier with guides and maps to State and National Parks. Here are a few of my favorites…

I’m actually in the market for outdoor dining furniture at the moment. I’ve looked at Bistro sets – but most of the tables are just too small for my current need. I found one extraordinary round mosaic table that was about 48″ which would be near-perfect, but they wanted $2500 – just for the tabletop! If I wanted a heavy and expensive Frisbee – and no chairs, that would be just dandy.

Last year’s resin birdbath didn’t make it too well through even a mild 2011/2012 Winter. This year’s selection will not have the same problem.

The resin birdbath developed cracks near the base early on – making it a chore to keep it full of clean water. Repeated attempts to repair the cracks were temporarily successful at best. I was surprised to see a temperature reading of 103 on my property’s weather station yesterday. The sensor was in full sun at the time, but this is still an incredibly hot day for Central North Carolina – last day of May.

I tested the water in my two bird baths around 2pm and found the water – which I had just refreshed on Sunday – at near body temperature to me. This means a not-so-refreshing break for the birds. Refilled with clean, fresh, and cold water, by the time I was redoing the second bird bath, it was standing-room-only at the first one.
