“Government officials said the blown-out well 40 miles offshore is spewing five times as much oil into the water as originally estimated – about 5,000 barrels, or 200,000 gallons, a day. The oil slick could become the nation’s worst environmental disaster in decades, threatening hundreds of species of fish, birds and other wildlife along the Gulf Coast, one of the world’s richest seafood grounds.”

And let’s not forget that 11 people died on the spot. Wake up Mr. President – this is terrorism – with both enviromental and economic impacts…

I first posted this Greenpeace oil spill widget on May 6th. The number of gallons spilled by then was 3.7 million…

Look at it now…less than two weeks later:

You can say what you want about oil and drilling for it. And “landlocked” politicians can complain that they won’t get the same piece of the pie as coastal states, but I think the true story of drilling is simply shown in the numbers…and animals killed, and businesses – put out of business – just as they were after the Exxon Valdez spill.

There is not enough “regulation” for this industry’s ability to destroy the environment – even if they would bother to follow them.
