Tools - Lawn and Garden
Can you ever have enough tools?
Not sure about you but my answer would generally be a loud, "No." No matter how many tools I already own, a project always comes up that requires something I do not have. Or, I find out about a neat new tool I am positive I MUST have.
Thomas Jefferson was an avid gardener and weather observer, and if he had designed weather instruments, they would have been attractive, long-lasting tools such as the thermometer and wind gauge shown below.
Thomas Jefferson may also have had to order his gauges from Europe and may have had to wait months to get them. Not you though - not today. All you have to do is click on either image for more information or to order.

But you do not need to have Thomas Jefferson's skills in order to take advantage of a few basic garden tools like those shown below.

The garden knife on the left is one of the handiest tools I own. Since I have a large property of nearly 7 acres, I usually carry this with me any time I head out for a stroll. The knife is sharp enough to slash at annoying weeds and wild-growing vines like kudzu, and has a sharp enough point to quickly dig out and remove many weeds or small plants - roots and all.
The garden scissors are also good to have around since there are a lot of jobs that can be completed quickly with scissors where heavier clippers or shears are not required. Deadheading roses, cutting smaller vines in tight spaces...all of this can quickly be managed with a sharp pair of garden scissors.

Safety is always a concern when working in the garden and when your garden is in the country you may be well away from your house while carrying out many of your gardening chores. Safety becomes even more important. Safety glasses are a really good idea that almost no one buys or uses until it is too late. Do yourself a favor - whether you wear glasses or not, and get yourself a pair of these - now. This is a small price to pay (usually around $15.00 for a quality pair), to protect your vision.
Gloves are an absolute necessity and not just for protecting a manicure! Minor cuts and scratches can quickly become infected. Areas that have bushes with thorns, logs with splinters and weeds with chiggers can expose your hands and wrists to no end of minor but sometimes very painful damage. Spend between $6 to $20 on a good pair of gloves and you'll never be sorry.
