  • Dental Wireless Camera Become Your Own Dental Detective!

I was meandering around the internet recently and stumbled on an article discussing "dental" web cams.

    "Dental"? Could this be right?

    Yes, it was.

Who knew there was a wireless camera out there just for any of us curious types who might want to get a closer inspection of our teeth and gums? I thought only a dentist could be trained to handle this type of up close and personal review.

This "inter-oral" wireless camera can be used and viewed via computer OR television. Imagine entertaining your friends and family with that.

The camera has a wireless transmitter built in and comes with both a high 1.3MP camera for high resolution video or still shots as well as a 2.4GHz wireless receiver that can be plugged into a TV using the AV connection or into a computer via USB. A great scientific tool, get a real good look at what is going on inside a mouth with this device, or get a close in view of skin or hair.

I'm not sure if this was the idea behind this device, but it might not be a bad thing to have in these times of skin cancer panic. Imagine being able to get this kind of close-up view of a worrisome mole? How about studying the roots of your hair? It has to be more interesting than watching paint dry - only mentioned as a comparison of course.

It is actually a pretty cool concept. Since I am experiencing a few dental woes of my own, I might have to contemplate purchasing one of these. Maybe it will help me do a better job of taking care of my teeth and gums...

    UPDATE: November, 2010
There was only one product available when I first wrote this, October 2009. Here are some of the additions since:

More about other forms of "surveillance" cameras coming soon!
